Drug Distribution/Trafficking

Drug distribution and trafficking includes selling, importing, or transporting illegal drugs into the USA.  The most common drugs that are distributed and trafficked include cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and Methamphetamines.  Also, many drugs that are associated with the club scene are also distributed and trafficked.  Examples of these drugs include ecstasy (MDMA), GHB, and Rohypnol; collectively these drugs are referred to as club drugs.  Some examples of drug trafficking and distribution include possessing illegal substances with the intent to sell them.  This may even include possessing illegal steroids and distributing them as well.  Illegal steroids are steroids in which the person does not have a valid prescription.  Likewise, you can be charged with drug distribution and trafficking for possessing and intending to sell legal prescription drugs.  You must have a prescription to obtain drugs legally.  If anyone forges a prescription for drugs (including the medical use of marijuana) they can also be charged with drug distribution and trafficking.

Federal penalties for drug charges are serious.  However, most penalties depend upon the amount of drug that was trafficked or distributed, along with the type of drug that is being distributed.  Also, the area where the drugs were distributed will also impact the penalty.  If someone was charged with distributing drugs in an area where minor children were present, a harsher sentence will be handed down.

Because drug offenses are federal charges you will face serious penalties. It is important to meet with a qualified criminal defense attorney who will examine the charges against you and determine the nature of the evidence in your case.  Sometimes, evidence is obtained through illegal search and procedure methods and an experienced attorney can speak up on your behalf. In many cases where evidence was obtained illegally, a criminal defense attorney is able to get the charges reduced and sometimes even dismissed.
