Sometimes the scam entails having the consumer call either an 800 or 900 telephone number. The phone call is not free and the telemarketing company makes money for keeping the consumer on the phone. It’s important to understand that if you win a contest or a sweepstakes, you will never have to make a purchase to obtain your winnings.
